A newborn calf needs good-quality colostrum, lots of it, fast, often, and clean! That’s where the priority lies. Especially in the first 24 hours. Our system starts after the colostrum period. At many farms, the 2nd feed is already fed from the Wennemars® ECF1 Drinker with a yellow Wennemars® ECF teat. This teat has a deeper cut-out hole which allows for more milk flow. Thus, the calf’s start after the colostrum period is optimal. When the calf can drink independently(3-5 days) we switch to the Wennemars® ECF teat black.
Feeding the calf slowly right after colostrum prevents many feeding errors such as:
The Wennemars® ECF calf drinking system has 1 teat for the entire milking period.If the calf moves after the group, we take the teat with it.This way, the teat is used optimally and grows with the calf.
Most importantly, the calf produces saliva. Saliva contains emenzymes that have an important function in the digestive process. For example, the emzyme lipase that breaks down fat. With better breakdown, fat can be better utilised and the calf grows and shines as a result. Efficient feeding is the gain. You can put a lot in, but if it comes out at the back it costs a lot.
Such a Milkbar, a teat feeder with 6 teats attached, that doesn’t work, does it? One calf drinks a lot more than the other? We should have a compartment feeder. (compartment feeder) …..
In some cases this may be true, but for dairy farms where calves are born on the farm and one therefore knows the history of the calf, it is actually counterproductive.
With the Wennemars® ECF Calf Drinking System, we have a complete system from the beginning to the end of the milking period.We start with the Wennemars® ECF teat in the single-stall pen. The calf gets used to the teat and we take that teat to the group pen on the Wennemars® ECF6 drinker. So for the calf, there is no more transition in terms of teat.
If you now start with a traditional valve teat ( with ball, spout, pipe, valve, etc.) then there is quite a transition for the calf when it comes to the group pen in the group. Then you get drinking differences. Because one calf will notice it faster than the other. Therefore, start immediately in the single pen after the colostrum period with the Wennemars® ECF teat yellow or black.
The Wennemars® ECF teat is constructed so that each calf has to make a sucking movement for each sip of milk. Just like milking a cow by hand. Then you also have to let go for new milk. That is quite a brake. It is then no longer about lung capacity or the power of suckling but about sustaining this movement until the milk in the group tank is finished.
The rate of drinking is about 6 to 7 minutes over 3.5 litres of milk.
So that is a long time where the probability of evenly distributing the milk increases.
In our webshop, order a Wennemars® ECF6 drinker with a Swing-Over Adaptor.This is a Wennemars® ECF adaptor that is attached with a hole in the top tube which becomes the pivot point. On the other is a hook that catches the Adaptor back on both sides.
The Wennemars® Swing-Over Adaptor was developed for Fertiliser Calf farming. There, the calves stand on slats and the floor (straw bed) does not rise. For dairy farming, we have developed the Wennemars® ECF6 Lock to lock the ECF6 drinker onto the fencing, preventing the calves from tilting it back.
A Swing Over adaptor fits many fencing systems. In our tool, you can select the type of fencing. Is the Swing Over adaptor not listed? Feel free to call us for the possibilities. Besides the Swing Over adaptor, we have also developed a Turn Over adaptor. This adaptor pivots on the top tube of the fencing.

Top tube thickness (By this we mean the diameter of the top tube. We need these to tilt the Turn Over adaptor.

The Wennemars® ECF Adaptor is designed to ensure that the calf can drink in the most natural position. The guideline for teat height is about 65 cm from the bottom. We have deliberately chosen to sell the teats separately from the drinking buckets.The reason is that we see it as a complete system that starts in the single pen right after the colostrum period. Then the calf receives a new Wennemars® ECF teat and this teat grows with the calf until the end of the milking period. The flow of the teat is even over a long period. Thus, the teat is used optimally.
The first 14 days of calf rearing are the most difficult. Make sure the calves stay healthy without too many pots and pills. Then slow feeding is a must. Do not make feeding mistakes and produce a lot of saliva.
Take the Wennemars® ECF teat with the calf to the group and fill the remaining holes of the ECF6 drinker with the ECF Plug. All calves know the ECF Teat and therefore no longer have to transition back to another type of teat in the group.

We just have handles in stock. If you order an extra handle with your order, we will attach it to the ECF1 drinker. But we can also supply it afterwards. Then you have to attach it yourself. Is not difficult.
The reason is that these handles often get in the way when cleaning. In addition, a lot of feeding is already done with a milk taxi, making dragging teat buckets unnecessary.
Yes, The Wennemars® teats fit perfectly in the grey Milkbar. These are much easier to change. Turn the Milkbar upside down and push the teat down. You will find that this is very easy. You no longer need a knife or a strong man. 😊
The ECF teats also fit in the Milkbar!
The teats from the Wennemars® ECF drinkers are easy to change.Turn the drinker upside down and push the teat down.And put it back in from the inside out. Done.
If you have a Grey Milkbar now, it may not be so easy.Then take a look at our solution. The Wennemars® teat for Milkbar. This one has less rubber at the bottom which makes changing easier. Also, the milk flow of the Wennemars teat for Milkbar is slow over the entire milking period. The teat’s opening remains small for a long time. Test it yourself.
The yellow Wennemars® ECF teat has a larger opening than the black ECF teat. We cut the yellow teat slightly deeper.This allows for more milk flow.Some calves drink colostrum milk well with this. But for some calves it is still too slow.So our advice is to put different caps on the Trusti Tuber and put different teats in here in terms of milk flow.After the colostrum period, we start up the calves with the yellow ECF teat. About 4 days and then immediately switch to the black ECF teat. So the calf can get used to the slow milk flow and be well prepared to enter the group.
