Use a previously used black teat or yellow teat for the first colostrum feeding. For the second colostrum feeding, use a yellow ECF teat. When the calf is able to drink on its own, switch to the Wennemars® ECF Black Teat. This teat moves with the calf to the ECF6 Feeder if they end up in a group. The teats are ease to change by placing the ECF1 Feeder upside down and pressing the ECF teat down.
A newborn calf sucks vigorously, and due to the open connection, the calf is not at risk of choking. The milk flow is slow, which helps prevent feeding failures. As the calf grows, it begins to consume more feed and less milk, making the milk flow less critical. By the time the calf reaches 8-12 weeks of age and is finished drinking milk, the teat will have worn out. If you reuse this teat, the milk flow will be too fast, and feeding failures may occur. Throw the teat away or clean it thoroughly and use as a colostrum teat.
